Why I Love Table Trimming High-End Wallpapers
There’s a rhythm to it.
The quiet hum of the work table, the sound of my blade gliding through a paper edge, the concentration that turns chaos into calm—hand-trimming wallpaper is one of my favorite parts of the installation process.
In a world that’s constantly speeding up, this is where I slow down.
It’s an Art—and I’m All In
Many of the luxury wallcoverings I install—think silk, grasscloth, scenic murals, or hand-blocked designs—come untrimmed, meaning each panel must be cut by hand before it goes on the wall. It’s meticulous, time-consuming, and requires a trained eye. But I love it. Every time I pull out my blade, I’m reminded that this isn’t just installation—it’s craftsmanship.
Hand-Trimming Means Seamless Results
Factory-trimmed papers can sometimes have inconsistencies. With hand trimming, I control every edge and cut with precision. This allows for tighter seams, invisible joins, and perfect pattern alignment. When you’re working with a $400-a-roll wallpaper, the finish matters. A lot.
It’s Where I Zen Out
I often joke that table trimming is my version of yoga. It’s meditative. There’s something deeply satisfying about focusing solely on the material in front of me—no distractions, just the flow of the work. I put on a favorite podcast or some Lake Street Dive, and the world melts away.
It Honors the Paper
These designer wallpapers aren’t mass-produced—they’re crafted by artisans. Hand-trimming respects the integrity of the material. Whether it’s a moody Phillip Jeffries grasscloth or a delicate Gracie mural panel, giving each piece the attention it deserves is part of what sets Perla Paperhanging apart.

A Specialty Worth the Extra Step
Many installers won’t touch untrimmed papers. I do—because I’ve been trained to, and because I believe in the result. This is where luxury wallpaper becomes wall art.
Hand-trimming isn’t for everyone. But for me, it’s the heartbeat of a beautiful install.
